A singer with a dynamic, wholly unique vocal range, she built a career in South Africa during the 1950s, largely as a member of an all-female vocal group, The Skylarks, and as a "guest" member of the all-male Manhattan Brothers. She met Harry Belafonte in 1959, who encouraged her to move to New York, where he mentored her career and produced her early albums. Disc 1 of this 2-CD?set features the pick of her 1950s recordings made in South Africa, between 1954-59, and includes her first international hit, 'Lovely Lies', recorded with The Manhattan Bros. Disc 2 comprises her earliest New York recordings, the LPs "Miriam Makeba" (which featured 'The Click Song') and "The Many Voices Of Miriam Makeba", plus a couple of sides recorded with Belafonte at Carnegie Hall.

Tracklist:

Lakutshon Ilanga

Orlando

Owakho

Intandane

Lovely Lies (With The Manhattan Bros)

Kutheni Sithandwa

Baya Ndi Memeza

Vula Amasango

Uthando Luyaphela

Table Mountain

Nomalungelo

Ndamcenga

Siyavuya

Rockin' In Rhythm

Hush

Inkomo Zodwa

Makoti

Ndidliwe Zintabe

Yini Madoda

Uyadela

Sophiatown Is Gone

Themba Lami

Unyana Wolahleka

Darlie Kea Lemang

Do Unto Others

Ngicela Indiela

Kudala Ngikwemele

Pula Kgosi Seretse

Iyaho

Mdamcenga

Phatha Phatha (Miriam And Spokes)

Miriam's Goodbye To Africa

The Retreat Song

Suliram

The Click Song

Umhome

Olilili

Lakutshn, Ilanga

Mbube (With The Chad Mitchell Trio)

The Naughty Little Flea

Where Does It Lead?

Nomeva

House Of The Rising Sun

Saduva

One More Dance (With Charles Coleman)

Iya Guduza

The Click Song (Live, With The Belafonte Folk Singers)

One More Dance (Live, With Harry Belafonte)

Kilimanjaro

Zenizenabo

Ntjilo Ntjilo

Umqokozo

Ngola Kurila

Thanayi

Liwa Wechi

Nagula

Carnival (Theme From "Black Orpheus")

Night Must Fall

Love Tastes Like Strawberries

Can't Cross Over

UPC > 604988088229

Format > New CD

Label > Jasmine Records

Shop online at Darkside Records.

Follow us on Instagram.

https://darksiderecords.myshopify.com/zh-cn/products/miriam-makeba-the-roots-of-miriam-makeba-from-south-africa-to-new-york
