With The World Cup coming up in just a few months time (the first match is June 11th), all eyes will be on South Africa. The hype surrounding the event will be massive, with three games screened daily. Alongside the football, there will global interest in the way of life and culture of Africa. These are African musicians, playing authentic South African instruments Fantastic music', is how the late john peel simply described the hohodza band in 2004, and here on this wonderful album you can see for yourself exactly what he meant. Managed by the multi-talented Portia Gwanzurah, the 15 piece Hohodza Band have brought the joy of traditional Zimbabwean music to the masses on their tours, including a set at the 'love music, hate racism' tuc campaign in Manchester where they were the only band performing at the day long event! Portia's wealth of experience has come through working with such names as Clarence carter and dave stewart and renowned lyricist don black, through exposure on BBC TV and radio and the support of certain members of parliment in the UK, even making representations on behalf of 'the rights of African women' in the house of commons as the chosen representative of the cause. Sung by the unique and fitting voice of Simbarashe 'Simba' Mudzingwa, and often accompanied on tours with 'the glamorous dancing queens', the Hohodza Band are all in all a real and quality act providing an insight into the music of this part of africa. Both upbeat in it's music and thoroughly meaningful in it's lyrics, 'Chinyakare Makaisepi?' will add a touch of Zimbabwean Colour to your day.
