Our Story
Darkside Records started with a pretty simple idea. We wanted to build the kind of record store we always wished existed. The kind of place where you can lose track of time digging through record bins. Where asking for something weird isn't weird at all. Where you'll come in looking for one album and leave with three you didn't even know existed. A place where conversations about music happen and friends are made.
Since opening our doors in 2011 in the heart of Poughkeepsie, that's exactly what we've tried to create. After spending years in the corporate music world at a time when physical media was being written off, we wanted to build something different—a place that felt welcoming instead of sterile and celebrated everything we love about music and the community that surrounds it. We still believe music is something you experience, not just something you stream. We believe albums deserve to be held, artwork deserves to be seen, and music is better when it becomes part of your life instead of background noise.
Come hang out. Flip through the bins. Ask us for recommendations. Tell us what you've been listening to lately. You never know what you'll discover.

Parking Information
There are 23 Darkside Records parking spots available along the side & rear of our building, all marked with posted Darkside Parking signs. These spots are free to park in while you're shopping in the store.
The remainder of the lot adjacent to our building is available for parking after 5pm and on weekends. Please don't park in the middle of the lot during weekdays from 9-5; other folks who work in the area rent these spaces. Please follow all posted signage to help us be good neighbors.
If our parking spaces are full, there is a paid municipal lot or street parking located directly across the road from our front entrance.
Please note that the munciapl lot is a paid parking lot 24/7 - Nights & weekends are NOT free parking. Street parking is paid on weekdays until 6pm, and then free for evenings and weekends.
If needed, there is an additional paid municipal parking lot just down the block at the corner of Cannon and Academy Streets.
We Buy Records (and more)!
Clean out your closet and give your records some new life. We buy & sell all day, every day (during store hours at least). Just bring in your used for us to check out and you could earn some extra dough.
We offer cash or store credit for used products so we can, in turn, keep our prices reasonable for someone else to enjoy.
We are typically interested in Music including: Vinyl records, 45s, CDs, cassettes; Movies including: DVDs, Blu-ray, laserdisc, VHS; HiFi Gear including: Receivers, cd players, speakers, turntables, preamps, etc; and Apparel including: Band T-shirts, hoodies, tour shirts, etc.
