Jazz band leader Charlie Hamp was one of the first to fully realize the potential of radio. After serving in WWI and leading the U.S. Ambulance Service Jazz Band. Back in the States, her carried on with his career in jazz and toured vaudeville, taking to the scratchy air waves in 1931! Mostly forgotten today, he was a big star for the few people who could afford a radio. Most of these tracks were made for his syndicated radio show "Rhapsody in Rhythm" between 1936 and '37.
