Cuban flautist Antonio Arcaflo formed his group Arcaio y sus Maravillas in 1937 with the world renowned bassist Israel "Cachao" Lopez and his brother Orestes Lopez forming the foundation. The group became quite popular, and became a major nightclub draw in Havana. In 1944, Arcaio y sus Maravillas became the radio orchestra for the Mil Diez radio station in Havana. The exposure allowed Arcaio to hire a larger ensemble that included a big violin section, cellos, and congas. Legend has it that it was Orestes Lopez, Arcano's celloist and pianist, who invented the Danzon mambo in 1938. Orestes's brother, bassist Israel "Cachao" Lopez, wrote the arrangements for the group which are now legendary staples of Cuban music at it's finest. Presented here is a rare collection from this famous group that helped to revolutionize the mambo form. All selections newly remastered.
