Formed in the Yellow Mill River ghetto of Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1954, as the Star tones, the group reformed in 1959 as the Teardrops and toured with such notables as Robert & Johnny, Bo Diddley and the Channels - they also sang back-up on Bo Diddley's "I'm Sorry", and "Crackin' Up." in 1960 they won the Apollo Theater's amateur night contest six weeks in a row, which attracted the attention of New York's Beltone label. Beltone asked the guys to change their name however, so the Teardrops became The Carnations. The members were Matthew Morales and Carl Hatton (both leads), Harvey Arrington, Edward Kennedy, and Tommy Blackwell. "Long Tall Girl" was recorded on March 2, 1961, and released in October, along with the B side ballad, "Is There Such a World", for Beltone's Lescay subsidiary. Newly re-mastered. [Note: This product is an authorized CD-R and is manufactured on demand].
