the album cover for Die Weisheit Des Alters / Various - Die Weisheit Des Alters

The "Ars moriendi" the "art of dying" - is a term that appears again and again in the Middle Ages. Especially Oswald von Wolkenstein, but also other minnesingers, deal with the dwindling strength and the physical decay at the end of life. And most of all, the poets are always concerned with their personal fear of the afterlife. Heinz Schwamm and Rainer Herpichböhm, who have formed the core of the ensemble für frühe musik augsburg for more than 40 years, are also close to this topic. They combine the "age complaints" of the minnesingers with youthful fresh dances and thus this "Memento mori" becomes a joyful and pleasurable confession.
