Highly regarded prior to the Great War, York Bowen's (1884-1961) romantic lyricism later fell out of favor. Saint Saens once described him '... as the most remarkable of the young British composers'. The Gould Trio, and guests, perform in this recording of Bowen chamber works. The Gould Piano Trio are considered one of the finest ensembles of their kind. The Piano Trio Op, 118, arguably Bowen's chamber masterpiece, is one of the finest such works by a British composer.
