Absolutely one of the greatest pianists of all time, Josef Hofmann could absorb any piece of music, no matter how difficult - and once he learned a piece of music, it was in his mind and fingers permanently. Born in Poland in 1876, Hofmann became a US citizen during World War I and mesmerized audiences with his astounding technical ability throughout the 1920 's, 30 's and 40 's at concerts in the US and Europe. He released commercial recordings beginning in 1903 and made some of the earliest recordings of classical music for Thomas Edison. Hofmann's astounding interpretations of Chopin's work is featured on this classic recording from the late 1930 's. All selections newly re-mastered.
