the album cover for Kusser / Musica Aeterna Bratislava - Six French Suites

Johann Sigismund Kusser (1660-1727) is probably the German composer whose output is aesthetically closest to the French style of his time - apparently he stayed in Paris for some years and also worked with Jean-Baptiste Lully. The latter's style is always present in Kusser's compositions and the six orchestral ouvertures included in this album can only be called great French Baroque music. The ensemble Musica Aeterna was established in 1973 by Professor Ján Albrecht. From 1989 onwards the ensemble has been using original instruments from the 17th and 18th centuries, or their copies. It's repertoire embraces European music from the early 17th century to the classic period. Rediscovered compositions of Slovak authors are presented in concerts and recordings of Musica Aeterna as well. The artistic director and leader of the ensemble is Peter Zajícek.
