The Czech composer and inventor who was considered to be among the first piano virtuosos, Jan Ladislaw Dussek (1760-1812) was a pupil of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, who proved to be an enduring influence in Dussek's piano works. Dussek's 3 Piano Sonatas, dedicated to Muzio Clementi mark an auspicious debut for the Rome Fortepiano International Competition winner, Naruhiko Kawaguchi. Dussek's works that are written with virtuosity and dramatic range are perfectly matched with Kawaguchi technique and sensitivity.
