Sakas / Munchner Motettenchor / Haag- Barock in Blue
The combination of Johann Sebastian Bach's music with jazz has a long tradition, the beginnings of which go back to the middle of the last century. For a very special recording of this exciting hybrid genre, the artistic director of the ensemble, Benedikt Haag, worked with Maruan Sakas and Maximilian Höcherl, two young jazz musicians from the Bavarian capital. The task for both of them: to process Johann Sebastian Bach's motets for choir and jazz ensemble. Maximilian Höcherl and Maruan Sakas recorded "Sing the Lord a new song" (BWV 225), "The spirit helps our weakness" (BWV 226), "Do not be afraid, I am with you" (BWV 228) and "Praise the Lord all Gentiles "(BWV 230) four of the six Bach motets. The result is new compositions based on these famous vocal works, in which the individual musical background of the arrangers can be recognized.
