They came late, but with an impact: like many other of Franz Schubert's later chamber music works, his two Piano Trios went far beyond the scope of contemporary music of the time. Inspired by the newly founded trio of his Viennese friends Schuppanzigh, Linke and Bocklet, Schubert created two milestones of the genre that surpassed everything ever before in expressive intensity. The early trio movement D 28 by the fifteen-year-old Schubert provides a charming contrast. "When talented young musicians come together to form a chamber music ensemble, their concerts are worth the journey. To hear the Trio Rafale in concert, no journey is too far." This is a comment by the German newspaper Oberbadische Zeitung from 2016 on the Swiss Piano Trio Rafale- named after the French word for a gust of wind. The three students from the Hochschule der Kunste in Zurich came together through a request to play the Piano Trio by Maurice Ravel in the spring of 2008. Since it's foundation, the trio has given numerous concerts in all major Swiss cities and has been invited to several festivals abroad.
