One of the most gifted and talented R&B producers / writers / artists of the last half century, Jerry Williams Jr. morphed into his alter ego Swamp Dogg in 1969 and proceeded to make some of the quirkiest, funkiest and most controversial underground funk albums since the dawn of funk. Recently, Swamp Dogg has been hailed as the "Real Doggfather" of Funk by Spin Magazine, and has experienced a career resurgence with legions of fans rediscovering his highly original independently released albums. Presented here is the rarest Swamp Dogg album on LP and extremely difficult to find at any price. Swamp Dogg himself doesn't even own a copy. It is not known how many copies of the album were pressed and issued, but it is likely an extremely small number. The phrase "opportunity, not a bargain" was directed to the owner of a record label that Swamp was shopping the album to. "We were joking around about the production cost and I needed to impress upon them that I needed what I needed and having a Swamp Dogg album would be the type of opportunity that could not/should not be measured by bargain standards." Originally released in 1977, "An Opportunity. Not A Bargain!!!" is a small goldmine of Swamp Dogg penned songs including "It's A Bitch" and "The Other Man." The album was recorded in Muscle Shoals, Alabama and features the great Travis Wammack on guitar. All selections have been newly remastered and finally available in the digital realm.
