The Pit Soundtrack (1981) (Colored Vinyl)

The Pit tells the story of Jamie, a boy bullied every day at school, who confides in his only friend, his stuffed bear, Teddy. One day, while wandering through the woods, Jamie discovers a massive pit filled with strange, hungry creatures. What begins as feeding them scraps soon turns darker, as Teddy urges him to lure the people who’ve wronged him to the hole.

Directed by Lew Lehman, The Pit received a lukewarm response upon release but has since built a cult following thanks to its bizarre premise and committed performances. Victor Davies’ score is full orchestral yet surprisingly stripped down. It carries an old-school, classic quality that could easily sit alongside a Universal Monster movie. It builds and builds, using a range of strings and woodwinds to add elements of tension, playfulness, and isolation.

The Pit (Music from the Motion Picture) features a gatefold presentation, printed sleeve, new exclusive liner notes by composer Victor Davies, and the complete score spanning 41 tracks with 43 minutes of music. The release was sourced from the original master tapes, expertly mastered for vinyl by Brock Fricker and pressed at Graveface Press, our in-house vinyl facility.
