Triad by Tony Pena
Eye brows lift and heads nod in recognition of another ah-ha moment when things happen in threes. Time and time and time again it seems that perhaps it actually takes three to tango. Sensing that the sun, moon, and stars were aligned just right, 2017/2018 Poet Laureate of Beacon, New York, Tony Pena, decided to take his muse’s breathy whispers in the shadows of the city to heart and toss his hat in the three ring circus of this curious theory of threes with Triad, his third collection of poetry, which delves into the challenge of trying to stay afloat within the ebb and flow of tides spawned by the fancy of a mercurial moon as a smorgasbord of musical notes ride the waters in the background trying to make sense of it all.
This labor of unrequited love and wanton lust includes three sections of poems with the first, The Dead of Night, and the third, The Shine of a Rebel Moon, at odds, being polar opposites in emotional perspective. They are separated by the second section, 33 1/3 Revolutions, which is a musical interlude of sorts consisting of thirty three and a third poems which touch on the magic of melody.
Hopefully, just as letters make up words, and notes make up chords, these poems come together and serve to remind us that we all represent a vital part, replete with unique experiences, to place in the vast jigsaw puzzle of our world, where our diverse pieces weave together with others in such fascinating fashions as to create a crescendo to an amazing soundtrack for the ages.
