the album cover for Golden Gate Quartet - Made In Raleigh February 2002

Founded in 1934, the Golden Gate Quartet was one of the main emblems of the advent of Afro-American music in history. Having invented a complete musical genre, the Quartet decided to cut this new disc in Raleigh near Charlotte, the region which nourished and encouraged the development of the Golden Gate Quartet. Headed by Clyde Wright, second tenor and narrator since 1954 and Paul Brembly, baritone since 1971, the Golden Gate Quartet presents a spectacular new image with rap phrasing which is simply the modernization of the narrative style and with mixing of tones resembling the sound of today's R'n'B. This novel concept proves that the world's most famous vocal quartet is still extremely active, while still maintaining it's original essence.
