During the 1960's, Shelly Manne recorded at least 9 sessions for Programs, Inc., to be used by the U.S. Navy in it's recruitment show, "The Navy Swings." These were recorded at United Recorders, in Hollywood and are all previously unreleased. This 23 selection CD contains recordings from each of the nine sessions, and is an excellent overview of the music Manne and his men performed and recorded during that decade. From Scott Yanow's liner notes: "Shelly Manne and his men were a pacesetting quintet that fell stylistically between cool Jazz and hard Bop."
