Joe Troop spent years rambling around the world with his fiddle and banjo before settling down in Buenos Aires and teaming up with native double bassist Diego Sánchez. In this their debut album, they offer up a collection of original compositions both willfully eclectic and deeply personal. Each of the twelve pieces works an an entry from Troop's travel log; sonic sketches ranging from Appalachian traditional music to tango, flamenco, gypsy jazz, bossa nova, Japanese folk songs and more. Troop sings in English, Spanish and Japanese, chronicling the stories of friends made and places encountered in his journeys. Sanchez's masterful bass playing is the perfect compliment to Troop's soulful voice, fiddle and banjo. "A Traveler's Sketches" is a sincere exploration of diverse world music styles by two accomplished musicians.
