the album cover for Chuck Flores - Flores Azules

Though he is less known than other so-called West Coast jazz drummers, Chuck Flores is actually a native of Orange, California and perhaps is best known for his work with saxophonist Bud Shank and bandleader Woody Herman in the 1950s, Flores has performed with Carmen McRae, Art Pepper, Maynard Ferguson, Al Cohn, and Shelly Manne, among many others. Highly underrated, mainly because he disappeared from the jazz scene for a number of years due to personal problems, Flores' considerable drum skills have been touted by all he has played with. Presented here is Flores' rare 1976 solo album, Flores Azules - a swinging Latin jazz affair featuring Chuck Flores (drums, bells, cowbell, tambourine); Bobby Shew (trumpet, fluegelhorn); Bob Hardaway (tenor saxophone, flute); Dick Johnston (acoustic piano, electric piano) and David Troncoso (upright bass, electric bass, congas). All selections newly remastered.
