the album cover for David Simmons - Love Tonight

A Philly Soul singer with a voice that is strongly reminiscent of the great Teddy Pendergrass, David Simmons has become quite the legendary singer in his own right. When Teddy left his position as lead singer for Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes to go solo, Simmons was asked by Harold Melvin to be Teddy's replacement, a job Simmons refused because he didn't want to be pegged as just another Pendergrass sound-alike. A talented singer who's as good as it gets, David Simmons proves again that he's his own man on his new solo album, "Love Tonight," his first full-length offering his days on the WMOT label in the late 1970's. Joining Simmons on two tracks, the classics "Look To The Children" and "Make It Last," is guest vocalist and disco icon Wardell Piper, who adds a touch of her feminine wiles to spice things up. The album was produced and arranged by veteran Philly Soul icon Butch Ingram, with the world-renown Ingram family band providing the lush instrumental backing.
