the album cover for Herb Miller Orchestra - Remember Glenn Miller

American bandleader Herb Miller, who brought the ?Big Band? sound of his late brother Glenn Miller to thousands in the United States and Europe. Herb Miller, the youngest of the three music-loving Miller brothers, was born in North Platte, Neb. , on Feb. 21, 1913. He first became interested in music at the age of 12 when his oldest brother, Deane, bought him a second-hand trumpet, and he played the instrument with his brothers whenever he could. Herb worked his way through the Colorado State College of Education at Greeley, teaching music in public schools for four years. In the 1930s, Herb went on the road with the Glenn Miller band as manager. During World War II, Glenn Miller's plane disappeared on Dec. 15, 1944, on a flight to Paris, and has never been found. In 1981, Herb came to London and formed a band with John Miller as lead singer, performing such Glenn Miller favorites as ?String of Pearls, ? ?Moonlight Serenade, ? ?American Patrol? and ?In The Mood. ? On Dec. 15, the 42nd anniversary of Glenn Miller's disappearance, Herb was on stage in a former World War II canteen in Bedford where his brother used to play. Herb Miller's last concert was Sunday at Paignton on England's southwest coast. The band has just released a record, ?Remember Glenn Miller. ?
