The prologue, like the prelude, welcomes the listeners into a world of ambiance and resonance. On this release, one is able to enjoy both Bach's 5 Preludes and Staffan Isbäck's 5 Prologues. A wave-like movement, an interference that both opens up and strengthens the relationship between music and composer. The preludes by Bach are followed by his famous Fugue for lute as well as the highly poetic Sarabande from the second suite for lute. Jim Nilsson, guitarist with a soloist diploma from Hochschule fur Musik in Basel, does here perform Bach on a seven-string 1820-replica guitar made by Lars Jonsson. The result is a tone carrying both the esprit of the lute and the warmth and dynamics of the guitar. By Staffan Isback, there are also three fantasies after themes by Jerome Kern, Chick Corea, and Duke Ellington- not in any way jazz-like, but more of the joy of walking on familiar ground. The suite Den andra enkelheten (The Second Simplicity) is a kind of bridge towards the music of Bach and breathes simplicity and playfulness and functions as a link to pieces for lute. The collection also contains Theme and Variation of Varmlandsvisa and two pieces from Sex Svenska slot (Six Swedish Palaces).
