This historic, live, unedited recording was made on May 21, 1988 and features the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus conducted by Robert Shaw. Robert Shaw (1916-1999) was most famous for his work with the Cleveland Orchestra and Chorus, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, and with his namesake Chorale. He was the first conductor to be awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship, received 14 Grammy awards, the American National Medal of Arts, four ASCAP awards for service to contemporary music, and several others. This recording of Beethoven's famous 9th symphony features soloists Benita Valente, Janice Taylor, Richard Leech, and William Stone.
