While it is no surprise to learn that many composers, including Reger and Webern, made arrangements of Schubert's Lieder, what is surprising is how seldom they tend to feature in concert or on record. This release showcases thirteen Schubert songs in orchestrated versions by Max Reger and four such by Anton Webern, one of the original Second Viennese School members. Accomplished with much craftsmanship, these arrangements merit notice as masterly, unparalleled works of art in and of themselves. German tenor Christian Elsner is heard aside the Berlin Radio Symphony and maestro Marek Janowski.
